We've been deluged with lots of rain over a short period of time here in the Northwest. It was mostly an inconveniece for us because we couldn't take the dogs for their exercise at the park last weekend. But, I just got an email from Elaine. She told me that some of her friends with farms more south of us have really suffered. This makes our trivial inconvenience feel so superficial. My heart goes out to these families with small farm businesses. And I told Elaine that if there is anything my family can do to help that we'd be very happy to do so.
The family at
Black Sheep Creamery lost over 75% of their flock. Here's what Elaine writes to me:
Miki, read her musings for december....it's heartbreaking to know that this flock
of 100 has been reduced to 20..drowned in the flooded Chehalis river. Now maybe
Randy wont be so interested in moving down there. The sheep we sold that went to
Doty also survived but the Thoroughbred horse farm a mile away lost over 30+
horses...drowned in their stalls and pastures.
