The Long Walk to the Barn

The Long Walk to the Barn

On Saturday, Peach and I helped Elaine shear Judy's alpacas. They had been boarding at Elaine's while Judy travelled about visiting her family. After the shearing and some shots, they were walked back over to Judy's. As for the wool, at least 50% was waste because of vegetation stuck in it. The rest was bagged to be cleaned and roved. Some of Judy's previous fleeces were given to me as commercially spun yarn. Elaine wants me to weave it into scarves for Christmas sales. Soooo....off to wind some warp.....

Angus got his Carting Started title yesterday at the American Rottweiler Specialty carting trial. They allowed other breeds to compete. Angus got around the mid-range place among all the dogs, and 2nd Reserve High Score in the Other Breed category (losing out on 1st to a smooth coated collie). (so essentially he was second place....or last place...among the non-rottweilers competing) ...depending on if you are an optimist or a pessimist). We're both really tired now and you can see he'd rather not be posing.

1850's Fort Nisqually Camp

1850's Fort Nisqually Camp
Originally uploaded by mikimm
This past weekend, Elaine and I camped at Fort Nisqually for the Brigade Encampment. This is a 1850's historical reenactment. We moved into our Baker tent Friday afternoon and camped until Friday. During the day we interpreted our camp to the public who came through the Fort. In the evenings, we enjoyed visiting with our friends. The Fullers (a family from Oregon) always camp by us, and we shared a cookfire and shade canvas between us. They had two tents this year (teenagers in one, parents & preschooler in the other).
It was great fun as usual, but I didn't get much weaving done (again).

Proctor Art Fair

Turning into Position
Originally uploaded by mikimm
This weekend, Angus got the opportunity to practice carting with lots of distractions at the Proctor Street Art Fair. This picture shows us turning into position for the Top Dog Parade. Jada was princess-like in her car seat on the cart. She enjoyed herself just about as much as Angus did. Plus, we got some free advertising for the clinic with a poster that Theresa made for the back of the cart.
