Doctor of Nursing Practice

Looks like I've been accepted as a Graduate Nonmatriculated Student at UW for the summer quarter. The ultimate goal of this new endeavor is to earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. The impetus for this was the idea that I had to improve access to care for kids needing diagnostic evaluation for neurodevelopmental and behavioral conditions like autism or ADHD. In our area, there is an 8 month waiting list to see the local specialist. Because of this, kids and families have a long time to hang out and not receive important services they may need for success with school and relationships. So, I decided that adding a neurodevelopmental/behavioral component to the clinic would be beneficial to our current patient families, as well as increase the clinic's potential for growth. That also means more work, of course, but what an opportunity to learn more, grow educationally and professionally, and also help the community (at least that portion of it that includes kids with these problems)

So wish me luck. I've printed out the forms to apply for a class this summer as GNM student. This ONE class is going to cost a whopping $2042.00!! Gak! So, obviously this isn't going to be a quick degree program at that kind of cost......

Pavilion tx 2000 tablet pc

Dale is moving around more and had his first follow-up appt today. Things are soon to be back to normal at home I hope.

Meanwhile, this is my new computer for home and work. And it will also be useful for going back to school.

I've decided to apply for the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at UW. The application process will probably be available toward the end of summer. And so that means the program won't really start until Fall of 2009. If all goes well, I can take some classes ahead of time as a Graduate Non-Matriculated Student. I've already applied for that but don't think I met the deadline to take a summer class. The program will accept 12 credits taken as a GNM student. I'm going to have to go part time and take as many credits as possible as a distance student since my clinic is full time too.

Also, I hope to have a new rottie pup to train as service dog. He or she will help carry my school stuff should I actually have to go to a class in person.

Busy busy!
