Death of a Dove

Angus somehow caught a dove and killed it before we could stop him. It was behind the currant bush, so maybe it was eating the few currants that are already ripe. When I got to it, it was gasping but alive and I checked it over. It had a broken wing, and I thought it might be ok. But then it just died in my hands. I think that it probably had internal injuries that I couldn’t see. Poor bird.

Anyway, Teddy was beside himself with excitement over the bird. He was hopping around, growling, barking and snapping at it. I let him inspect it along with the other dogs. When I put it down to get a picture, I thought he was going to tear it to pieces! Good grief! I don’t know if it’s prey drive if the animal is dead already, but this dog is full of it! By the way, he weighs in at 19 lbs 1 ounce today at 10 ½ wks.

Teddy's Here!

This is our new pup on his play date with Mona, a 4 month old Mastiff puppy. He's 9 weeks old here and 17 pounds. As you can see, he's happy to play with the big dogs and not at all intimidated. He's also very interested in food treats. We're still not getting a lot of sleep.
Last weekend we drove all the way to Hayden Lake, Idaho to pick him up at Von Marc Rottweiler's. This is a beautiful breeder's home in northern Idaho where a few litters are bred with an eye for conformation, temperament, health, and working ability (agility, obedience, therapy, and herding).
We are so thrilled with our little guy! He's feisty, but not obnoxious. You can tell he's going to be a handfull when he's older. Smart as a whip! He already asks to go outside to potty, sits for treats, comes when you call him, follows you, sleeps in the crate.......I could go on and on.....but I'm going to take this opportunity to get back to work cuz the little guy is finally napping. He does have a ton of energy when he's awake!
